“Being the minority in a middle-class boarding school was confusing because we had to act different but when we were recording music it allowed us to joke and just be freely black.”
Burrbank is Debbie Maburutse, Jako Mostyn, David Manzo, and Rodney Ssenfuka.
“Our first album is about to be released. We actually recorded it when we were all still in school and we do pay homage to the school because that's where we all met. One thing that I loved about Burrbank is that it was a safe space for the black community in that school. Burrbank really became a family, and we really do commend Jako for never making us feel like we had to change, he let us really be ourselves.”
