Hi I’m Mariah, a second year History of Art student. Being a member at the Norman Rea Gallery at the start of my first year has given me the opportunity to help behind the scenes with our past exhibitions, from Virtually Real to Up North. The welcoming environment and rewarding experiences has inspired me to get more involved with the gallery. Having a high interest in the media platform and being a proactive social media user, I understand the importance of continuing and further developing the branding of NRG through different plans that are accessible to a range of audiences. This means building a new website that combines both our blog and events as one. As this year’s Head of Press and Publicity, I aim to consistently retain the image of the gallery by ensuring upcoming exhibitions are well publicized, keeping all our social platforms updated at all times as well as engaging with a wider audience outside of York.
Being Head of Press and Publicity the past several months, I had the opportunity to work closely in creating projects such as our online exhibition, CHANGE. This allowed me to develop skills such as creating interlinking websites for our upcoming projects such as the Campus Art Exhibition. As Co-Vice Director with Emily Quli, I hope to continue our goals this year by providing students with engaging cultural content even during these unprecedented times. As well as offer opportunities for students to get involved in the exhibition programme and most importantly increase representation within the gallery and on campus.
