Najee Reese - painter.
“You can’t help it. An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.”
“My work is my source of strength through times like, even when it seems good there’s always more to do and I appreciate that with paintings I can just be. As the mother of a black man the BLM movement is everything to me. It’s heavy as a women to know that at some point in his early life I’ll have to sit down and have the ‘talk’. Not about girls but a ‘talk’ about how to conduct yourself around the police, how he can’t have a very flashy car because it attracts to much attention, or how he can’t have toys that look like Weapons. My son is only three years old. When is a good time for the talk? As an artist I must show the struggle as I feel it, as it happens, however it happens.”
